1st Lt John Arthur Stout III

Lt. Stout enlisted in the Army on October 10, 1941, after completing 4 years of college at Baylor. He was working as a baker when he enlisted. He completed Officer’s Training School and received a commission as a Lieutenant. He was sent to the Pacific and saw combat duty in New Guinea and the Philippines. On December 19, 1944, he was on LST-460 as a part the first echelon during the retaking of the Philippines from the Japanese. On December 21, 1944, LST-460 was hit by a Japanese kamikaze plane. Lt. Stout was lost at sea and is considered missing in action. He was 28 years old.
